EXPERIENCE
OVERVIEW

Fourteen two- and three-bedroom social housing dwellings at Hotham Estate in North Melbourne.

Hotham Estate Social Housing is recorded in the supplied CV as a Curnow Freiverts + Glover project in North Melbourne, Victoria, with 1,520 sqm GFA and an 1,810 sqm site area. The project provided 14 two- and three-bedroom houses on a site adjacent to the Canning Street high-rise blocks. The design used simple repeated plans and forms to contain costs while still allowing careful urban moves: houses on the east side address the street beside the high-rise with larger-scale entry recesses, the south block is set back to retain substantial trees, and terraced blocks use simple north-oriented forms where possible. A limited palette of brick colours, galvanised steel shading and plant climbing devices supports efficient plans intended to provide maximum utility and delight for residents.
