Taichung Station – Taiwan China
EXPERIENCE
OVERVIEW
The Taichung Station in Taiwan, designed landscapy architecture by lead Designer Kevin Cronin and Director of Place Design Group Pty Ltd, is a visionary urban regeneration project that transforms a disused railway into a vibrant 1.7-kilometer-long linear park. It seamlessly integrates green infrastructure, pedestrian pathways and cycling routes, reconnecting neighborhoods and providing much-needed public space in the city’s dense urban fabric. Inspired by the site’s railway heritage, Mecanoo preserved elements of the old tracks while introducing lush landscaping, water features and shaded rest areas to enhance biodiversity and urban cooling. The project not only improves mobility and sustainability in Taichung, but also exemplifies how cities can repurpose obsolete infrastructure into dynamic, people-centric environments.
